Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?
Every event is unique, with my fee depending on factors such as how long I am required and the travelling distance. Please contact me for a personal, no obligation quote.

Where are you based and how far will you travel?
I live in Suffolk and perform throughout East Anglia and north London. I am willing to travel further afield, but please remember that I will add my travel expenses to my fee.

What style of music do you play?
I have a extensive and diverse repertoire of easy listening and pop standards, showtunes, jazz, and classical music with something for every age and audience. I will tailor my performance to your musical tastes, and can include pieces by your favourite songwriters and composers, provided you let me know in advance.

Do you do requests?
Absolutely. I have a large repertoire, though no musician can know every piece, so to avoid disappointment it is best to tell me at least 2 weeks in advance if there are specific pieces you would like me to perform.

Can I give you a list of pieces I want you to perform?
I am happy to learn any pieces that you want included in your event, provided you give me at least 2 weeks notice.

The venue does not have a piano. Can you provide one?
I have a professional quality electric stage piano and amp which I can bring to any venue at no extra cost.

Do you sing as well as play the piano?
No, but if you’d like a vocalist as well this can be arranged at extra cost.

What will you wear?
I usually wear a smart suit and tie, though I can wear black or white dinner jacket depending on what you prefer.

Will you play outside?
Yes, provided the weather is fine, I am protected from the elements, and there is a power source for my electric stage piano.

Will my guests be able to talk whilst you are playing?
At parties and receptions my music will be in the background to create ambiance, allowing guests to talk comfortably.

How long do you play for?
I will play for as long as required and whatever is appropriate for your event. Two hours’ performing, with a short break, is typical for a reception or dinner. A wedding ceremony or civil partnership may last an hour. I will take a short break for every hour of performing. The timings will be agreed in advance and confirmed in the contract.

What if my event lasts longer than expected?
The performance timings will be agreed in advance. If you would like me to stay and play for longer than the agreed time, this may be possible but will require an additional fee.

Are you insured for public performance?
Yes, as a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians I have public liability insurance of £10 million indemnity and am CRB checked.

Can you accompany us in a group singalong?
Yes, I am happy to accompany any song you would like included in your event, provided you let me know at least 2 weeks in advance.

How much space will you require?
A minimum of 5ft by 4ft is sufficient. I will need to be near a power source, if performing on my electric stage piano.

Can we use your PA for speeches?
Unfortunately I’m unable to offer this service as my amp is specifically designed for use with my electric stage piano.

Can we meet you to hear you play and discuss our requirements?
You can hear a cross section of my repertoire on this site but I am happy for you to come to my home if you would like to hear me play live. I can help you choose music for your event if you are stuck for ideas.

How do I go about booking? Do you require a deposit?
After you have accepted my quote, I will send you a contract confirming the timings, date, venue and fee which you will need to sign and return to me along with a 50% deposit of the fee to secure a booking. The balance of the fee should be settled within 14 days after the performance.

Can you just pencil me in?
I am unable to commit to any engagement without a signed contract and deposit.

What happens if I need to cancel my event?
Provided you give me at least 72 hours notice, your deposit will be returned to you. If you give me less than 72 hours’ notice, the deposit will be non-refundable.

Tell me about your composing service.
To make your event even more unique and personal, I can compose an original piece of music tailored to your musical tastes. So whether you prefer pop, jazz, easy listening, or classical music, as an experienced professional composer I can create music perfect for your event. As part of the service, you will receive a recording on CD of me performing your piece, and a copy of the sheet music.
